Donaire wants wife to try showbiz

Nonito Donaire and wife Rachel

Because Nonito Donaire found his stance under the showbiz spotlight too amusing, he wanted wife Rachel Donaire to experiment on a career in the limelight as well.

“I’m still convincing her [Rachel] to get into showbiz because I find it so fun to do. I want her to enjoy the same things I enjoy,” told the Filipino Flash to a group of entertainment media at Annabel’s Morato in Quezon City where the couple faced the press as endorsers of Mikaela Medical Team, an aesthetic and well-being company headed by Donaire’s co-“Celebrity Duets” contender Mikaela.

For her part, international Taekwondo champion Rachel denied she wanted to try showbiz only if she would be in a packaged project with her husband but admitted she would not want to be paired with anybody other than Nonito if given a choice. Since the couple is under contract with the GMA Artist Center, Mrs. Donaire clarified, “It’s not that I want to be in a package deal with him, but if I were to choose a partner, there’s no one else I would want to team-up with but my husband. He’s not just my first choice, he’s my only choice.”

At the press conference, Donaire owned up to a certain weakness. Apparently, the nerves of the Filipino Flash easily get shaken when he needed to do things for the sake of vanity. Confessing that he is afraid of facial treatments, Donaire said he only signed up with Mikaela for three reasons: One, Mikaela is a dear and trusted friend; two, Nonito liked how painless facial treatments are at her watch; and three, the fact that Mikaela makes Mrs. Donaire happy. “I’m very easy to please. If you make my wife happy then you make me happy,” Donaire told the press with palpable sincerity.

Rachel meanwhile stressed that Mikaela was one of the very few people who reached out to the couple during “Celebrity Duets.” “She [Mikaela] was there at a time when we were new in the business and we did not know anybody. I really appreciate the friendship particularly when we were in a situation where everybody knew everybody.”

In the growing industry catering to aesthetic needs, Mikaela refused to compete with more established celebrity doctors. “For me it’s a matter of taking the competition outside the Philippines and on with the vision of making our country the beauty capital of Asia.”

Rachel supported this when she was asked about being compared with Jinkee Pacquiao, who also endorses a medical group catering on aesthetic services. She addressed the issue saying, “There will be comparisons [between Jinkee and myself] but I hope they see things in the big picture that we are here to promote the country and it’s not about competing with each other here but taking the battle outside and compete with other Asian countries like Thailand. It’s about convincing the world that you need not go to Thailand to get the kind of body or look that you want. We can all work together to make the country the real beauty capital of Asia.”
