Past turns to present for Jake Cuenca and former PBB housemate Sam Pinto, who are acting opposite each other in the fourth installment of the “Agimat” series on ABS-CBN. They are co-stars in “Elias Paniki,” a TV remake of an old Ramon Revilla, Sr. fantasy-driven motion picture.
At the show’s media conference Wednesday, Sam acknowledged she and Jake once shared a “past,” which the lovely, up and coming actress did not elaborate, however. In an exclusive interview after the conference, Jake told us he and Sam had known each other since they were in their mid-teens but started dating only last year.
They broke up when the demands of his acting career took its toll on the budding relationship. “Now that Sam is also acting, I think she understands me better,” Jake said.
Sam, who stole scenes during her stint on “Pinoy Big Brother,” admitted she turned down an offer to co-host “Wowowee” to concentrate on acting. Aside from “Elias Paniki,” there are other projects up her sexy sleeves but which she could not as yet divulge.
Sam feared doing a daily show might interfere with her projected acting career. She said she didn’t mind losing the opportunity to gain overnight popularity which she could have easily gotten just looking pretty on the noontime show.
Meanwhile, Kelly Misa, one of “Wowowee’s” new co-hosts who’s also playing a supporting role in “Paniki,” said everyone on the “Wowowee” set is awaiting the return of its main man, Willie Revillame. Kelly, a commercial model and former beauty and fashion columnist, maintained Mr. Wowowee is simply resting but will be returning soon on air.
Four more titles under ‘Agimat’
Towards the end of the “Elias Paniki” media event, its producers announced the acquisition of four new titles from the vaults of Revilla, Sr. under the “Agimat” banner. They will be acted out on the small screen by Enchong Dee (Boy Putik), Jason Abalos (Bianong Bulag), Ejay Falcon (Pepeng Kuryente), and Jolo Revilla (Kapitan Inggo).
The high ratings enjoyed by the “Agimat” series has inspired network to continue production of more fantasy-driven action dramas. They are also an excellent springboard among the network’s rising actors shopping for title roles with which audiences can identify them – at least even for six months or so.
Jake says doing the “Elias Paniki” role has been tough. The action scenes are executed raw, meaning body contact is for real. Jake showed us some cuts, marks and bruises on his arms. “We are prepared to get hurt when we report to the set,” he said. “Elias Paniki” premieres May 29.
The hot young actor acknowledged missing working with Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu, his co-stars in “Tayong Dalawa,” which to him was a real special project. “It’ll take a while before something close to it will come by again,” he sighed.
Jake is reverting to drama by way of “Green Rose,” a Tagalized Koreanovela, and a role in the Aga Muhlach-Angel Locsin movie currently filming.
