NCR track and field team breaks more Palaro records
Valdecañas equaled the NCR relay team’s golden performance when he snatched the pole vault mint in record-breaking fashion. He did not only break the Palaro record but also the National Junior mark.
The incoming La Salle Greenhills senior first cleared the bar at 3.85 meters to break the 3.80m set by NCR’s Christian Chua in the 1993 Palaro.

Western, Central Visayas and CALABARZON bets were not to be outdone and scooped up gold medals in their respective events.

Sarah Sunga of NCR won the silver but was behind by almost seven meters.
Joneza Mie Sustituedo, also of Western Visayas, also set a new mark in the elementary girls’ 1,500m run with a time of 4:57.69 to shatter the five-minute record of Jovel Ambagon In 1996.
She defeated teammate Aileen Abulan (5:06.6) and Jenalyn Alba of MIMAROPA (5:10.5) for the gold.
Central Visayas’ Daniel Noval, meanwhile, romped to his second gold medal when he tied a Palaro record in the 200m run with a time of 22.19 seconds equaling the mark of Ronald Caluanan of Cagayan Valley in 1998.
His first gold also tied another record by Caluanan in the 100m dash run with a time of 10.9 seconds.
He bested Jan Mark Mucho of Western Visayas, who came in second at 22.82 seconds, and Eduardo Ferrer, who came home with a bronze with a clocking of 22.84 seconds.
