RP kids win anew
By FRANCIS SANTIAGO
The RP street children continued their “miraculous” run by blanking the Ukrainians, 3-0 to storm into the finals of the 1st Deloitte Street Child World Shield Saturday in Durban, South Africa.
The win was a fitting sequel for the Filipino footballers’ stunning 6-2 win over Brazil Thursday night, a victory that booked them a slot for the SCWS trophy, a secondary award to the World Cup.
Midfielder Noriel Pineones, who scored four goals against Brazil, started the country’s onslaught with a fine goal in the 4th minute. Team captain Erica Mae Inocencio made it 2-0 for the RP team with another exquisite goal before Jayson Simangan sealed the deal.
Dubbed as the “Miracle team” for beating the odds in forming the team, the Filipino booters battle the host squad in the finals.
The South Africans trounced Brazil, 2-1.
