Filipina gymnast Amanda Louise Alejandrino wants to rejoin the national gymnastics team and get the chance to represent the Philippines in an Olympic qualifier next year.
Her US coaches are planning to have her compete in the World Championships in 2011 and land a spot in the Top 30. This will qualify her to compete in the 2012 London Olympics.
However, Alejandrino was advised from joining the National Ranking Meet hosted by Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) last Sunday to rest her injury that she sustained during training.
The National Ranking Meet is a competition for present National Team members and aspiring gymnasts from all over the Philippines to be ranked in the four events of Women’s Artistic Gymnastics: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.
Alejandrino recently arrived home after 5 months of intensive training in artistic gymnastics at the United Elite Gymnastics and Cheer in Dallas, Texas under renowned trainers former Brazil National Team Coach Igor Carvalho and Denise Hedges.
The US trip was Alejandrino’s second stint training under Carvalho and Hedges, trainers of US Olympic champion lady gymnasts. She trained with them in April 2009 in Dallas to prepare her for the SEAGCON Competition scheduled July in Thailand.
She was all set to compete in several US competitions, but competition rules require a Philippine federation’s endorsement for her to representthe Philippines.
